Families with children are now receiving an advance on their 2021 child tax credit starting on July 15, 2021.

The child tax credit calculator tells you how much money you might receive in advance monthly payments in 2021 and how much of the credit you’ll claim when you file your return next year.

These advance child tax credit payments will last through December 2021.

How much you will get will depend on your filing status income in 2021 and the number of children you have that qualify.

How do I calculate the child tax credit? What are the income thresholds? First, you’ll need to consider the ages of your eligible children and your income.

Example:

• Ages five and younger  (1 child) is up to $1,800 in total (up to $300 in advance monthly)  (Married filing seperate.)  ($75,000 Max.)
• Ages six to 17 (1 child) is up to $1500 in total (up to $250 in advance monthly)  (Married filing seperate.)  ($75,000 Max.)

However, a portion of your amount will be reduced by $50 for every $1,000 over the following modified adjusted gross income limits.

• $150,000 for Married Filing Jointly or Qualified Widow(er)s
• $112,500 for Head of Household filers, and
• $75,000 for Single and Married Filing Separate
